About fifteen kilometers from our structure it is possible to visit the abandoned medieval village of San Severino. The road to reach the start of the path that leads to the village is scenic: the medieval village is in fact perched at the beginning of the Mingardo valley and to get there you have to take the road that takes its name from the river it runs alongside, the Mingardina. Along the way there are a couple of steps leading down to the river, if you want to make a small detour.
Once you exit Mingardina you can leave your vehicle in the car park located a few meters from the start of the path that leads to the medieval village. After a short walk you arrive at the village, Today, it is abandoned and can be visited for free.
What remains of the buildings, of the fortress and the church is well maintained and taking a walk in the alleys of this “ghost town” you can admire the Mingardo valley from a different perspective and you can imagine what life was like when the village was inhabited.
Built between the 10th and 11th centuries in a strategic position overlooking the valley, it was inhabited until the railway line was built and the inhabitants gradually moved down to the valley.
